My talent match journey
I’m Hannah I’m 22 I’m disabled I have a disability called cerebral palsy.
I’ve always had a passion for art even from a young age I’ve studied from a range of things from fine art to fashion and design
I’m a care leaver 14+ supported me through my care experience
At 19 I got pregnant with my daughter Lola so I had to quit my college course due maintaining hospital appointments my daughter is now 2
So now I found it hard knowing I have always had a passion for art and want to go back into it but didn’t know how now I have a little one
14+ told me about talent match I had a meeting first with Lydia who was my mentor and soon explain talent match help other and young people get into work and other resources with solving barriers they might have (i.e. me being a single mom also a wheelchair user)
Lydia began meeting with me once a week and explored my options with what I wanted for the future to make a better life for me and my daughter despite my difficulties
I started a face painting course which was GREAT!
Fitted around me and my daughter and I begin my journey to success
Learnt a brand new skills and my interest started building and my mind begin to wonder what could I do with these skills?
Lydia my mentor left talent match to start her very own adventure in a new job
That’s when I met Steph my new mentor
I started a whole new chapter again with Steph’s support I realised I want my future bright and solid not just for me but for my daughter too
Explained I don’t want to miss out on my daughter growing up but I want to pursue my dreams too
That’s when everything clicked I want to set up my own business to do with body art
I then got put up for a star award by Steph which was a great advent all the young people was there too involved with talent match celebrating success
We have also been on trips with talent match with was great to build on our team building skills even Lola got to come to and the talent match staff was there supporting me
Steph and I soon knew what direction I wanted to go in I got on to Princes trust enterprise business course which was a 4 day course in Wolverhampton I explored different skills I need to step up my own business but not only that I also knew weather it was the right path I’m going down
I completed the course
Now
I’m in process of doing a home course diploma in face painting which my mentor found so I can do that from home around Lola after that I’m hoping to get more experience in the field of business I want to develop and I sure can do that with the support of talent match
Talent match is not just a organisation it’s a team a family
